MySpace Comeback Fuels Internet Jokes & Nostalgia

The Vanderhook brothers, who own MySpace through their ad-tech firm Viant Technology, confirmed in a new documentary directed by Tommy Avallone that they plan to relaunch the once-dominant social platform. “We are stewards of the MySpace brand… and we are going to relaunch MySpace,” Tim Vanderhook said, adding they are “just waiting for the right time.” Millennials have flooded social media with wish lists — the iconic Top 8, profile songs, mirror selfies, and hand-coded HTML pages — while content creators joke about dusting off their scene-kid aesthetics. Launched in 2003 by Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe, MySpace peaked at over 22 million members by 2005 before Facebook’s rise. Details of the relaunch remain under wraps.

Tuskegee University Dress Code Sparks Debate

Tuskegee University ignited an online firestorm after the historically Black university in Alabama announced new dress code guidelines banning bonnets, du-rags, and slippers in classrooms and the cafeteria. Students are also expected to arrive on campus with a business suit for professional meetings and to avoid revealing clothing in official university settings. Tuskegee leaders say the policy prepares students for the professional world, while critics argue the standards target clothing associated with Black culture and hold Black students to a different standard than peers at predominantly white institutions. The debate has drawn responses from HBCU alumni, scholars, and students nationwide.
