Biography
Andre “Drizzy” Elliott’s relationship with music started long before he stepped behind the DJ booth. Originally from Laurinburg, North Carolina, Drizzy also spent parts of his childhood in Orlando, Florida, and Fayetteville, North Carolina.
As the oldest of nine siblings, his story was shaped by family, movement and the sounds surrounding him growing up.
His grandfather played an important role in developing his love for music. From music playing throughout the day to trips to record stores and listening to blend CDs, Drizzy was exposed early to the way different sounds could be brought together.
By high school, he wasn’t simply listening to the music at parties — he was paying attention to the crowd and how people responded to different songs.
A major turning point came in college in 2016, when he watched DJ Double J perform. The experience pushed him toward the turntables himself, and within approximately three weeks, Drizzy had begun his own journey as a DJ.
Even his stage name has a music connection. His nickname began as “Drizzy Dre,” inspired by his Drake fandom, before eventually being shortened to DJ Drizzy.
Over time, his approach developed around understanding the crowd, transitions, sound and the overall energy of an event. His story is also one of continuing to grow through setbacks while remaining grounded in why he started.
Behind the Name
Before he became known as DJ Drizzy, his nickname was “Drizzy Dre.” The name was inspired by his Drake fandom and eventually evolved into the stage name DJ Drizzy.
The Beginning
Drizzy’s path toward becoming a DJ took a major turn in college in 2016 after watching DJ Double J perform. Within approximately three weeks, he began DJing himself.
His interest in controlling the atmosphere of a room, however, started much earlier. In high school, he paid attention to how different songs affected the crowd at parties — an instinct that would later become important behind the DJ booth.
His Approach to DJing
Drizzy approaches DJing as more than simply selecting songs. His focus includes understanding the crowd, knowing his music, transitions and creating the right energy for the environment.
