Biography
Rapsody, born Marlanna Evans, is from Snow Hill in Greene County, North Carolina. She began rapping while attending North Carolina State University and became the flagship artist of 9th Wonder's Jamla Records.
Her albums include Laila's Wisdom, Eve and Please Don't Cry, and she has earned Grammy nominations for her work.
Carolina story
Her career is a Carolina production start to finish: a small eastern North Carolina hometown, a Raleigh university, and a Durham-rooted production camp.
She has consistently pointed listeners back toward the state's producers, studios and collaborators rather than treating North Carolina as a launching pad to leave behind.
Music
Career & impact
Rapsody is one of the most respected lyricists of her generation and the clearest evidence that the Carolina hip-hop pipeline produces career artists, not just moments.
