Biography

Maceo Parker is a saxophonist from Kinston, North Carolina who became central to James Brown's bands and later to Parliament-Funkadelic.

He has led his own groups for decades and remains one of funk's most recognizable instrumentalists.

Carolina story

Kinston produced several of the musicians in James Brown's orbit, making eastern North Carolina an unheralded engine room of funk.
