Biography

9th Wonder, born Patrick Douthit, is a producer and DJ from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He first gained national attention as the producer in the Durham group Little Brother.

He has produced for a long list of major artists, founded Jamla Records, and has taught at North Carolina Central University and other universities.

Carolina story

His production style — soul samples, unhurried drums — became the sound people associate with the Triangle's hip-hop scene.

By teaching and building a label in North Carolina rather than relocating, he turned individual success into local infrastructure for younger artists.
